First to answer the question "Who keeps this site up to date?"
In
an ideal world, the answer would be "we all do!" All the dance
instructors and hosts of area dance events have access to update the
Events Calendar, and several of us have the admin "keys" to the pages
of the site. But too often the ones who are really good at dancing are
not always the same ones who are inclined to fiddle with webpages, so
those who can, do.
I'm one of those who can. I teach Middle
School Technology and Language Arts down in La Pine, and dancing is a
beloved hobby for me. I don't teach dance (except to my middle
schoolers), don't sell shoes, don't host dance events . . . in short,
I'm a good, neutral candidate to start a community website for the
local dancing scene. When I started www.benddancing.com in April of 2009,
the only real way to know what was going on in the area was to get
yourself on about 4 mailing lists and read the forwards of emails regarding the upcoming
such-and-such events.
I was inspired by the work of the unknown (to me, anyway) people who maintain www.portlanddancing.com--I've used that site every time I've been to Portland for conferences, and I love it!
If you are interested in helping out by
keeping the calendar up to date or if you have technical know-how that
would make this site a better place, I'm very open to your help and new
ideas. Email me: Tim Chase at edtech2020@gmail.com.
Thanks for dancing!
